The County Government of Uasin Gishu has launched a sensitization program aimed at enhancing public understanding of laws and regulations in the construction industry.
Chief Officer for Physical Planning and Urban Development Kenneth Mbeka on Monday, May 9, 2022, flagged off a team of Physical planners in the sensitization exercise set to be carried out in several wards.
The mission, Mbeka said, is to ensure thorough efficacy of development control as a tool for monitoring residential and commercial buildings’ development process within the county.
“The sensitization exercise seeks to promote quality assurance within the building construction industry. The department is undertaking these measures and carries a follow-up of all ongoing constructions for compliance to the approved plans by the department,” said Mbeka.
Amos Kiptanui, Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Racecourse Ward, Director Physical Planning, Planner Daniel Koech, and Racecourse Chief Sammy Meli, while addressing wananchi, emphasized the County’s role as a statutory planning authority mandated to ensure that all building developments within its spatial jurisdiction are procedurally monitored.

How to get a building permit
The initiative will also seek to sensitize members of the public on how to get county approvals/permits before starting constructing commercial or residential buildings.
There are four main steps involved in getting a permit from the county before starting your building project;
Step One: Have a registered professional draw your plans considering the zoning regulations.
Step Two: Submit the plans with proof of ownership and payment of statutory fees.
Step Three: Plans are processed and notification of approvals is issued.
Step Four: Collect your plans and start your project.
