The latest opinion poll for the presidential race now shows that the popularity between Deputy President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga is almost equal across the country.
The poll released by Mizani Africa indicates that the difference of popularity between the two leading contenders is only 0.1 percent.
“William Ruto is the most popular presidential candidate commanding the highest rating with 47.0% while Raila Odinga comes closely in second place with 46.9% making a marginal difference between them of only 0.1%,” the survey released on May 10, 2022, shows.
The Survey was conducted between the 18th and 29th of April 2022, through telephonic interviews among respondents distributed proportionately to the population size across 47 counties in Kenya.
4,245 respondents were interviewed.
With the latest opinion poll, it means DP Ruto expected to fly the Kenya Kwanza ticket in the August 9 poll, has dropped in popularity by 2.2 percent from the 49.2 percent he polled in February 2022 when Mizani Africa last released the poll.
On the other hand, Raila, an Azimio la Umoja One Kenya candidate gas gained by 1.8 percent since February 2022.
In the February poll, the ODM leader had a popularity of 45.1 percent.
4.9 percent of Kenyans interviewed in this survey said they are undecided.
The survey also shows that DP Ruto is leading in two key regions – Mount Kenya and Rift Valley, while Raila is ahead in 6 other regions.
Based on the survey, the DP has a 76.3 percent popularity rating in the vote-rich Mount Kenya region and a 64.4 percent rating in his home region – Rift Valley.
“Raila Odinga commands a lead in six regions: Nyanza (76.3%), Lower Eastern (75.1%), North Eastern (57.2%), Western (56.3%), Coast (56.2%), and Nairobi (51.6%),” the survey shows.
