The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has linked Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi and his Soy counterpart Caleb Kositany to a Friday incident in which a helicopter carrying ODM leader Raila Odinga was stoned.
A statement on DCI’s Facebook page says the two, alongside Uasin Gishu County Assembly Speaker David Kiplagat planned and coordinated the incident.
The attack happened as Raila was in Kabenes, Soy Sub County for the burial of prominent farmer, politician and businessman Mzee Jackson Kibor.

“At the closure of the ceremony, chaos erupted and stones including other projectiles were hurled at the former Prime Minister by incited youth, maliciously damaging the his helicopter’s windscreen,” DCI said I the statement.
The three have now been summoned to appear before the Rift Valley DCI coordinator on Sunday.
“In view of the foregoing, the two legislators and County Assembly Speaker have pursuant to Section 52 of the National Police Service Act 2011, been summoned to appear in person before the Rift Valley DCI Regional cordinator on April 3, 2022, at 9am, for further investigations into their involvement in the incident,” said the DCI.

The incident has received wide condemnation from across the political divide.
Deputy President William Ruto led other politician in his camp in condemning the incident.
The leaders summoned had also condemned the incident, with Sudi blaming the security team for failing to ensure enough police officers are on the ground.
“The police should take full responsibility for what happened in Kabenes. Someone of stature like the Former Prime Minister shouldn’t attend any function without heavy presence of the police. There were only two police officers surrounding the chopper. These days some youth go overboard…We shouldn’t tolerate such barbaric and retrogressive kind of politics this century,” Sudi said on Friday.

Kositany on his part said, “I condemn the act of cowardice by some rowdy youths who pelted Raila’s chopper.
Earlier in the event the same youths booed and heckled leaders while they gave their speeches and condolences to late Mzee Kibor.”
Police have so far arrested at least 14 people suspected to have been involved in pelting stones at Raila’s Helicopter.
