DCI Swings into Action Following Fraud Claims Facing Eldoret Muslim Association

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has finally set in motion a probe into alleged forgery facing the Eldoret Muslim Association.

A Muslim member in Eldoret, Jamal Diriwo Mungatana, had filed a complaint before DCI offices accusing some officials of forging registration certificates for the association.

Mungatana claimed the current office bearers, purporting to run the association, were imposters.

Following his claims, the DCI has now summoned the officials linked with the alleged forgery.

Who has DCI summoned over Eldoret Muslim Association forgery claims?

Eldoret West (Turbo) Sub-county DCIO Richard Okeri told Uasin Gishu News that the three officials will be grilled on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.

We have invited the chairperson, treasury and secretary of the said association to come and help shed more light into this matter,” Okeri said on Tuesday.

He noted that his office has also written to the Office of the Registrar of Societies seeking clarification of the authenticity of two registration certificates purporting to be of the Eldoret Muslim Association.

Okeri said he expects to get a response from the Registrar within the next few days.

Already, I’m weighing the options of sending an officer to Nairobi to follow up on this matter because it will give us an idea of the direction these investigations will take,” the Turbo DCIO said in an exclusive interview with Uasin Gishu News.

Mungatana claims the current office holders illegally registered a new association whose certificate deliberately omitted the name Eldoret as contained in the original certificate.

He argues that the association’s name and registration certificate have never been altered hence the said officials are imposters and should be prosecuted.

Eldoret Muslim Leaders in Trouble for ‘Forging’ Registration of Association

The Muslim youth leader has since written to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) who recommended that the matter be handled by the DCI.

Previously, Mungatana had expressed concerns over DCI’s failure to summon the accused persons.

However, the latest development might come as a ray of hope in the matter linked to a tussle over the control of assets worth billions of shillings owned by the Muslim Association Mosque Committee Eldoret.

The association that started several decades ago has in the past faced claims of mismanagement of pieces of land – some claimed to have illegally been transferred to private individuals.
