Police officers in Eldoret town have launched a manhunt for a 21-year-old girl suspected to have procured an abortion before throwing the five-month-old male fetus inside a latrine.
It took Uasin Gishu County Fire Brigade only ten minutes to retrieve the fetus from the 10 feet latrine in an area known as Munyaka Sewage on the outskirts of Eldoret town.
Uasin Gishu Chief Fire Officer David Sitati Wanyama who led the retrieval exercise confirmed the incident.
According to Sitati, the foetus was discovered by residents of the Munyaka area who informed officers at the Kapsoya police station.
“We were called upon by the Kapsoya police after they were informed by residents and we had to rush to the scene and helped to retrieve the body,” Sitati said.
“The suspected young girl is on the run and police are looking for her to be arrested. I would like to advise young girls that abortion is illegal and dangerous,” added Sitati.
Reports from the residents indicate that the suspect may have terminated her pregnancy before dumping the fetus in the pit latrine.
The retrieved male foetus body has since been taken to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) mortuary for preservation as police continued with the investigation.
