The Eldoret Municipality has put on notice entertainment joints and churches over noise pollution.
Municipality board chairperson Julius Kitur argues that most of the clubs and some churches were playing loud music which translates to noise pollution as per NEMA Act.
As a result, Kitur now wants all clubs within the Eldoret Municipality to have sound proof.
In an interview with the media, the Eldoret Municipality board chairman cautioned that in partnership with the National Environment Management Authority, they will soon do a a crackdown on clubs, restaurants and other entertainment joints playing loud music.

“The loud music is so disturbing and I want to ask them – those playing loud music in clubs to get sound proof buildings failure to which we’re going to take action,” Kitur said.
“Not everybody likes loud music. There are those who want to get a good silent sleep. For those near residential areas, and even in town, they need to follow the law and get the sound proof so that they can play the loud music as they want,” he added.
The Eldoret Municipality boss noted that their order for clubs to get sound proof is not meant to drive them out of business, but it is only to ensure an ample environment for all.
“If you followed the right procedure to open your business and you are in the right place continue doing it. But for noise pollution, we will discuss with NEMA so that we deal with it,” Kitur said.

Asked on whether the order applies to churches, he said, “Yes. Churches should also find a way of managing their music. We have many churches in town and if everyone plays loud music, no one will get the message.”
Eldoret has in the recent years emerged as one of the top entertainment hubs in the country. There has been an increase in the number of clubs, most of them located outside the Eldoret town Centre.
The town is also home to tens of churches.
