Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has challenged residents to apply for the county’s Nawiri Fund to boost their businesses or start other income-generating activities.
The governor made the remarks while speaking at church services at the Full Gospel Church in Bondeni, Kitale, and the New Preaching Life Change Ministry Church in Sikhendu.
The Ksh200 million fund is available at a reduced interest rate of 3 per cent.
According to the county boss, his administration is committed to launching projects that will help improve the living standards of residents.
The governor also revealed that his administration is in the final stages of completing the construction of the Masinde Muliro and Railway Markets. These markets will provide local business owners with more space for their activities.
Upsurge in murder cases
While speaking in Sikhendu, the governor decried rising cases of murder in Kiminini Sub-County. He said the brutal killing of an 80-year-old grandmother in Chepkorok Village should not go unpunished.
Mama Susan Nang’unda was slaughtered in her house by unknown assailants.
“It is uncalled for to kill such an old grandmother by boys roaming around aimlessly. I’m appealing to anyone with information leading to the arrest of those involved to volunteer information that will bring these crooks to book,” he said.
The governor also affirmed his commitment to working with all residents, irrespective of their tribe, religion, or political affiliations, to ensure that Trans Nzoia realizes its full potential.
In addition, he called on residents to desist from making sentiments that would divide the people instead of building cohesion, saying the county needs unity to prosper.
