The County Government of Uasin Gishu firefighters on Monday afternoon managed to successfully put out a fierce fire at a confined and complex residential premise located at Jerusalem Estate on the outskirts of Eldoret City.
The crew received a distress call from a tenant around 2.09 p.m and quickly responded to contain the fire which residents said threatened to spread further and raze several residential houses.
Residents said two children who had been left unsupervised in the house by a house help escaped unhurt and no injuries or casualties were reported after the inferno.

While confirming the incident, Uasin Gishu County Chief Fire Officer David Sitati urged residents to talk to children about the dangers of fire and never allow them to use a match or lighter: even with an adult present as one of the prevention strategies to fire outbreaks.
“I urge parents and guardians not to leave children unsupervised and teach them the dangers of matches and lighters,” Sitati said.
“Househelps should also be taught about basic safety skills,” he added.
The latest fire incident is the 40th that Uasin Gishu firefighters team has responded to since the year started.

Increasing number of fire incidents have been linked to the prevailing dry and windy season.
It is not easy to predict a fire outbreak and the county government continues to remind residents to use their emergency numbers—0710646464, 0532061185, or 0706389888—to report any fire incidents and provide accurate information to ensure a swift response.
