The County Executive for Trade, Investment, Industrialisation and Tourism, Dr Philip Chebunet, on Monday, July 20, 2026, led a team of officials from the Directorate of Tourism on an inspection tour of the Eldoret Arboretum to assess the facility’s condition and explore opportunities to revive it.
The delegation included County Director of Investment, Erustus Kerich, who represented the Director of Tourism during the visit.
During the exercise, the team identified areas that need work to get the green space back to its potential of being a good recreation area, a tourism facility, and a source of revenue for the county.
It also assessed key areas requiring rehabilitation to restore the arboretum to its intended purpose.
Over the years, the County Government, through the Departments of Tourism, Eldoret City, Environment and Fisheries, has invested in enhancing the visitor experience at the arboretum by developing key tourism infrastructure.
These include a gazebo, watch tower, visitor sheds, camping sites, nature trails, the planting of indigenous trees, a Wall of Fame, and a fish pond. Today, the site continues to attract nature lovers, fitness enthusiasts, and residents who prefer taking morning and evening walks or runs in its serene environment.
Health CECM visits Kapsoya Health Centre
Meanwhile, the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Health Services, Janet Kurgat, accompanied by Chief Officer for Preventive and Promotive Services Dr Billy Lubanga, conducted a routine supervision to assess service delivery and strengthen healthcare standards across the facilities.
At Kapsoya Health Centre, the team noted significant progress, including adequate drug supplies, a well-managed supply chain, and a workforce of 16 nurses.
The facility offers comprehensive laboratory services supported by a full haemogram machine, SHA registration, child welfare clinics with all essential vaccines, antenatal and postnatal care, maternity services averaging 30 deliveries, nutrition services with three nutritionists following up on malnourished patients, as well as social work services providing psychosocial support, health education, and community outreach programmes.
CECM Kurgat also directed the facility management to establish a Newborn Unit to further improve maternal and child healthcare services. Additionally, she emphasised the full implementation of staff name tags to enhance accountability and improve patient interaction
