The International Conference on Climate Change and Ecosystems (ICCCER-2024), initially set for October 30-31, 2024, has been postponed.
The decision was made due to an ongoing public university staff strike in Kenya. Moi University’s main campus was to host the event.
Staff from public universities nationwide started the strike on October 29, 2024. The move led conference organisers to delay the event, a decision they noted was on them prioritizing the safety and convenience of attendees.
“We regret to announce the postponement of the International Conference on Climate Change and Ecosystems,” read the statement from the ICCCER-2024 Secretariat.
“Due to a pending public university staff strike in Kenya…the decision was made to delay the conference to ensure the smooth organization of the event and the safety of all participants.”
Organizers acknowledged the disruption this may cause for participants, offering apologies for any inconvenience. They however assured attendees that new dates would be communicated promptly once normal university operations resumed.
“Those seeking more information are encouraged to reach out to the ICCCER-2024 Secretariat for updates and guidance on next steps,” read a statement posted on Moi University’s website.
The university has been closed for over a month now since the Senate closed it indefinitely due to the lecturers’ industrial action.
But the situation has been worsened with the university staff union recently calling for a nationwide strike.
