A court in Eldoret has ordered Douglas Kipchumba, a man accused of brutally killing his ex-girlfriend and her one-year-old child to undergo a mental assessment that will determine whether he will be charged for murder or not.
Eldoret High Court Deputy Registrar Diana Milimo issued the directive and asked the police to take the suspect to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) for the assessment.
Once the assessment report affirms that the suspect is fit to face a murder charge, the court directed that he be presented before High Court Judge Eric Ogola to take a plea in the murder charges he is facing on December 15, 2021.
The court also appointed Morgan Omusundi to be the lawyer that will be representing Kipchumba in the case, after it emerged that he had no legal representation when he appeared in court.
Court documents indicate that Kipchumba is facing two murder charges.
He is accused of killing Bresley Kipruto, a one-year-old child on November 19, 2021, at Soroiyot village in Kesses Sub County of Uasin Gishu County.
The accused is also facing another murder charge for killing Hildah Kosgey, his ex-girlfriend, who is also the mother of the killed child.
