Billionaire businessman Bundotich Zedekiah Kiprop alias Buzeki now says Eldoret town requires ‘serious urban planning and redesigning’.
Eldoret has been pushing for an elevation to the city status for over a year now.
But even as it seeks to be the fifth city in Kenya, Buzeki, an aspiring Uasin Gishu governor notes that there is a need to focus on the future when designing this town – usually referred to as the city of champions.
In a post on his official Facebook page, the businessman-cum-politician noted that by looking in the future – Pioneer and Elgon View estates need to start positioning themselves as the ‘Upper Hill of Eldoret’.
He, however, faulted past leaders for failing to factor in future expansions when planning for Eldoret town.
“We need to consider future needs lest we choke it by focusing on the current situation or letting things take its natural cause. How I wish our past leaders had considered future expansions and secured 1000 acres from the former EATEC land to establish the new town. Pioneer and Elgon view should start positioning themselves as our new upper hill,” Buzeki said.
“It’s’ possible for us to start thinking and planning of our future Eldocity,” he added.
And as a gubernatorial aspirant, Buzeki says one of the things he will wish to do as the Uasin Gishu Governor would be to change the face of Eldoret.
Among the plans, he intends to roll out, if given mandate, will include decentralizing services and taking county services outside the Eldoret town Central Business District.
Currently, a majority of county offices, and services are at the headquarters at the heart of the town.
“With your mandate as from August, our effort will be to change the face and design of Eldoret. We will decentralize services and encourage new investors to set up modern office blocks outside the CBD. We will also take our County service delivery points outside the CBD to encourage opening up. County departments will be situated close to where their services are required. I am focusing on delivering a new look at Eldoret within my term of office. I need your support to make it happen.”
