Elgeyo Maraket: Tot Sub-County Hospital Gets Ksh15 Million for X-Ray Equipment

Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisely Rotich has pledged to allocate Ksh15 million that will be used to facilitate X-Ray installation at the Tot Sub-County Hospital.

The funds will also be used to improve services at the facility located in Marakwet East Sub County.

Speaking after visiting and assessing the level of services at the facility on November 22, 2022, the county boss affirmed his administration’s commitment to improving existing health facilities.

My administration will ensure a continuous improvement and upgrading of the facility to serve wananchi well,” Rotich said.

To equip the facility with basic diagnostic equipment like X-Ray equipment and other improvements we shall pump in Ksh 15 million to accomplish this together with Kaptarakwa sub-county hospital,” he added.

The Tot Sub-County Hospital will also be used by students of Tot Kenya Medical and Training College (KMTC) which is currently under construction by NG-CDF Marakwet East.

Later, the governor made a stopover at Soko Bora Centre where he held discussions with wananchi on how best to improve the livelihoods of the area residents.

I encouraged them to grow cash crops as a way of elevating the standard of living in the region especially now that banditry along the Kerio Valley has stopped,” he said.

Markets and livestock auctions opened

The governor further expressed satisfaction with a wind of peace blowing through the region and the commitment of the people both from the Marakwet and Pokot communities.

And as part of the efforts to ensure the Kerio Valley region returns to full calmness, the Elgeyo Marakwet Governor announced the re-opening of all weekly markets and livestock auctions.

The markets had been closed during the Covid-19 pandemic.

To strengthen peacebuilding, I have instructed the department of Trade to ensure that all weekly markets and livestock sale yards are opened immediately to promote trade between the communities in the area,” said the governor.

Further, the county boss inspected the ongoing Chebuser irrigation scheme project which he said once complete, will be a game changer in the area “and will turn the deadly Kapkobil hotspot into a bread basket irrigating 500 acres of land.”
