Elgeyo Marakwet County Scales Up Malaria Fight

Elgeyo Marakwet County’s Department of Health Services has scaled up malaria prevention and control along the Kerio Valley.

Public Health Officers are carrying out intensive prevention and control of malaria which includes Indoor Residual Spraying within the Malaria prone areas in the county.

According to Chief Officer Preventive and Promotive Health Services Caroline Magut, all the households along the Kerio Valley belt will be targeted with indoor residual sprays and larviciding of all clean stagnant water which are the breeding sites for mosquito larvae.

Praying helps disrupt mosquito cycle.

When Indoor Residual Spraying is done, it provides a guarantee that mosquitoes and all other crawling insects are killed within the household for a whole year,” Ms Magut said .

The insecticide lasts for a year while being effective on the walls and ceilings. The Department is also doing larviciding in all mosquito breeding sites within the affected areas.

The exercise has been carried out in the entire Endo ward, Lower Sambirir, Arror, Lower Emsoo, Lower Tambach, Soy North, and Soy South Wards.

The spraying will eliminate all adult mosquitoes while the larviciding will effectively kill all the larvae hence disrupting the mosquito cycle.

This will drastically reduce the Malaria disease burden across the county and maintain the status for a year.
