The County Government of Elgeyo Marakwet in partnership with the Commodity Markets Exchange (CMX) has kicked off distribution of Super Napier Grass which is expected to enhance livestock production.
This 7–10 year perennial crop popularly known as (Pakchong) is expected to address the challenges faced by livestock farmers such as the rising cost of animal feeds.
Compared to the ordinary napier grass, the new breed mature fast and therefore becoming suitable for farmers.

Representing Governor Wisely Rotich, the Deputy Governor Prof. Grace Cheserek said the initiative will be going a long way in addressing the challenges faced by local farmers.
“We have signed contractual farming agreement with CMX enabling farmers to sell their produce directly to them,” said Professor Cheserek.
Prof. Abdi Gulie, Presidential Advisor on Livestock Development noted that once dried, Super Napier can also be crushed into nutritious chicken feed.

An acre of land can accommodate up to 7,000 stacks of Super Napier.
In attendance were the Presidential adviser on Commodity Exchange Phyllis Kandie, CMX Chief Executive Officer Jacob Maaga and the County Executive Committee Member for Agriculture and Livestock Edwin Kibor.
