Breakdown of UDA Aspirants in 7 North Rift Counties

The North Rift region is largely considered a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) stronghold.

With the 2027 general elections nearing, the party recently opened registration of candidates who wish to use its ticket to vie for the elective positions.

Nationally, the party has so far received registration fees from 12,353 aspirants eying the governor, senator, county woman Member of Parliament (MP), MP and MCA seats.

Of the total number of those registered, 149 are eying the governorship, 279 (senator), while 323 indicated plans to vie for the woman rep seat.

The MP seat has attracted 1,372 aspirants, while 10,230 registered as MCA aspirants.

How many aspirants are vying for Uasin Gishu and Nandi gubernatorial seats?

Nandi and Uasin Gishu have the highest number of aspirants who registered amongst the North Rift Counties.

In Uasin Gishu, six aspirants are eying governorship, seven the senate seat, while 20 have expressed intrest in the woman rep seat.

For the nearby Nandi County, 10 individuals are in the race to take over from Governor Stephen Sang, who is serving his second and last term, while 15 others are eying the Senate seat.

21 aspirants plan to vie for the Nandi Woman Rep seat under the UDA ticket.

In Elgeyo Marakwet, 10 aspirants have registered as those eyeing the governorship wuth another 15 joining the Senate seat race. 10 individuals registered as woman rep aspirants from Elgeyo Marakwet County.

16 individuals are eying the Baringo gubernatorial seat under UDA, with another six in the race for the Senate seat, while 30 are in the race to be the woman rep.

West Pokot, Turkana and Trans Nzoia counties had the fewest number of aspirants who registered.

In West Pokot, there are only three candidates in the senate and governship race under UDA, while six are eyeing the ruling party’s ticket for the woman rep seat.

For Turkana county, only one aspirant expressed intrest in seeking the UDA governorship ticket, with another five expressing intrest for the Senate seat. No aspirant registered for the woman rep position.

Four individuals are eyeing the UDA ticket inthe  Trans Nzoia gubernatorial race, three for Senmate seat and another six for the woman rep.
