Elgeyo Marakwet is set to be the first county to swear in a new governor.
This is after the county secretary who doubles up as the chairperson of the Assumption of Office of Governor Committee Paul Chemmuttut announced the date that the swearing-in ceremony will be held.
In a public notice seen by uasingishunews.co.ke, Chemmuttut said the event will be held next Thursday, August 25th, 2022.
Wisely Rotich was announced the winner of the August 9 poll and subsequently became the governor-elect.

Rotich has been serving as the Elgeyo Marakwet Deputy Governor since 2017, under the outgoing Governor Eng. Alex Tolgos’s leadership.
He was elected alongside his running mate Prof. Grace Cheserek on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket.
“It is notified to the General Public that pursuant to the Assumption of Office of the Governor Act 2019, the inauguration and swearing-in ceremony of the Elgeyo Marakwet County Governor-Elect, H.E Wisley Rotich and Deputy Governor H.E Prof. Grace Cheserek shall be held on Thursday, 25th August 2022,” read part of the notice.
The ceremony shall be held at the Iten Grounds starting from 10 AM.
“Invited guests and members of the public are advised to be seated by 9 AM,” noted the public notice.

The Assumption of Office of the Governor Act provides that a governor-elect shall be sworn in by a gazetted judge, at least 10 days after the declaration of the election of the county governor.
And the swearing-in ceremony must be held not before 10 AM and not after 2 PM.
Already Chief Justice Martha Koome had appointed High Court Judge Reuben Nyakundi as one that will swear in the Elgeyo Marakwet Governor-elect and his deputy.
