Elgeyo Marakwet: Youths, Women a Target as KeLCoP Project Is Launched

Small livestock commercialization farmers in Cherangany Chebororwa ward are set to benefit from Kenya Livestock Commercialization Project (KeLCoP).

The project majors on four value chains that create income.

Speaking during the official launch of the program in Chebororwa, Elgeyo Marakwet County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Agriculture, Livestock, irrigation and fisheries, Edwin Seroney said the program is in line with Governor Wisely Rotich’s manifesto.

As we all know the poverty rate in the county is wanting, the project purpose is to eradicate this by improving the status of the poor in the ward. The project will highly focus on youths and women to put money in their pockets,” said Seroney.

He further stated that he is ready to join hands with relevant stakeholders who have plans to support such programs to make sure that the county’s ‘pesa mfokoni‘ initiative is realized.

Election and Vetting of 30 Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) were also done.

The team will come up with Community Action Plan (CAP) after the lapse of 14 training days. CAP will help to determine the value chain to be considered in the ward.

National Livestock Marketing Specialist Lydia Kimachas encouraged the department to come up with the agricultural crop act and livestock act that will set up rules and regulations to curb products which don’t meet standards.

The community applauded the project’s objective stating that it will be of impact.

Also present during the launching was the Area MCA, Ward Administrator, Ward cooperative officer, area chiefs, and PRA members among other livestock officers.
