Eldoret residents have been treated to a taste of what life would be like in the near future once recently installed traffic lights are fully operational.
A team working on installation of traffic lights on Wednesday conducted a test run at the Chepkoilel junction.
Being the first time motorists were using the lights for their navigation, traffic marshalls were deployed to help ensure full compliance from both drivers and those on foot.
On several occasions, the marshals had to signal to drivers that it was time for them to stop to allow those ok foot to cross.

The test run of the Eldoret traffic lights at some point led to a traffic snarl up along the busy highway even as locals got a glimpse of the soon-would-be normal phenomenon in Eldoret.
Test if the lights at the Chepkoilel junction comes after the contractor recently erected barriers around the area to ensure those on foot only cross the road at designated points.
The lights have been erected in at least four main points within the CBD, including the at Zion Mall, KVDA and Nandi Park Junctions.
Tender for the traffic lights had been issued way before Eldoret was officially declared the country’s fifth city.

Initially, it was expected that the lights would be operational as soon as the city charter was awarded.
However, with the test of the lights, it’s now of time before it’s fully deployed.
