The County Government of Uasin Gishu is taking significant steps to boost the local businesses in the region.
On Friday, Governor Jonathan Bii hosted a technical team from the State Department of Housing and Urban Development, led by director Dr. K’onyango Charles for a site visit and presentation of an architectural design for the new ultra-modern 64 Retail market in Eldoret.
Bii said the architectural design presented during the visit showcased remarkable features, incorporating innovative technologies and sustainable practices to create a market that not only promotes economic activities but also a vibrant hub for the residents of Uasin Gishu, therefore standing out as a beacon of modernity and functionality.
“My administration will continue to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure the timely completion of the project and its successful operation in the future.”
“…with the new champions market, Uasin Gishu is set to become a hub of economic activity, fostering growth and prosperity for all its residents,” said Bii.
Deputy Governor Eng John Barorot noted that the new champions market in Eldoret is expected to have a significant impact on the local economy at the time when Eldoret town is nearing the attainment of city status.
“With its modern design and state-of-the-art facilities the market will attract both local and international businesses boosting trade and creating employment opportunities for the residents of Uasin Gishu because it serves as a testament to the county government’s efforts to support and nurture the business community in the region,” reiterated Eng Barorot.
“Upon completion, we will give priority to traders who were initially there because we have all the previous records and also to ensure that brokers are eliminated,” he added.
Facilities in the state-of-the-art market
Dr. K’onyango Charles, Director of the State Department of Housing and Urban Development noted that the state-of-the-art seven-storey facilities will be incorporated among others, ample parking space, proper sanitation facilities, water and electricity connections, and a 24-hour security surveillance system.
“We want to assure you that we will work according to the plan’s projection which states that the facility should be completed within 24 months,” said K’onyango.
Trade Executive Martha Cheruto said that these features will ensure that the market is not only visually appealing but also provides a safe and convenient environment for both businesses and customers.
Cheruto further said all the trader needs will be taken care of noting that perennial issues of scramble for space, and lack of key amenities will be a thing of the past.
