Saroiyot village in Uasin Gishu County was on Sunday plunged into mourning after a shocking incident in which a form four student is said to have killed his former lover.
The suspect, Douglas Kipchumba, is said to have killed his ex-lover, a form three student, and her daughter after his attempts to reconcile failed.
Locals say Kipchumba had pitched camp at the girl’s village for the last one week in an effort to win back the girl, and when he failed he resorted to killing her with the child.

“The child was not his, she is his ex-girlfriend as they were in a relationship while at Biwott Secondary School. The father of the child studies at Ngeria Secondary school so he killed them because of jealousy,” one local told Citizen TV.
Kipchumba is said to have tricked the girl and the child to a nearby river where he committed the heinous act.
After killing the two, locals say he hid the mother’s body in the grass and put the child’s body in the river supported by a stone.

“He left the marks where the body was hidden. It is like he wanted us to find them,” said another local.
After killing the ex-lover and her child, Kipchumba is said to have traveled back to his rural home, 20 kilometers from the scene of the crime where he attempted to commit suicide by drinking poison.
He was, however, found before it was too late and taken to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret town where he is receiving treatment.
A note was found at his place where he had admitted killing the girl and her child.
Kipchumba is now expected to be arraigned in court to face murder charges once he recovers.
