Teachers’ fraternity in Uasin Gishu County is mourning following the death of a long-serving union official John Boor.
John Boor who served as the Wareng Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) branch Executive Secretary until the last elections died on Saturday, March 19, 2022, after a short illness.
The current KNUT Executive Secretary in the branch Thomas Yego confirmed Boor’s death.
“It has not yet been established the disease which killed him,” Yego said while confirming the sad news.
“On behalf of myself and the teachers of Wareng, we want to send our message of condolences to the friends and families of Mr. John Boor. May God gives them strength during this hard time of mourning,” he added.
The body is currently at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) mortuary in Eldoret town awaiting burial.
Yego who took over from the late Boor after the recent KNUT elections described the deceased as a vibrant leader who was ready to fight for the rights of teachers whenever they had a challenge.
He recounted how John Boor would at times use his own finances to champion for the teachers’ rights.
“I worked within the deceased for many years. He was a down-to-earth person and always stood up and defend teachers’ rights,” said Yego.
The family has planned for a fundraiser this Saturday aimed at raising funds to offset hospital bills and burial expenses.
Burial is set for Saturday, April 2, 2022, at his home in Kaptum, Megun ward.
