The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced a reduction in fuel prices for the next 30 days.
In its monthly review, EPRA said the prices for a litre of Petrol will drop by Ksh5, Ksh2 for Diesel and Ksh4.01 for Kerosene. This is the highest drop for the fuel prices in the country for the last two years.
According to EPRA, the drop is due to a decrease in prices of avarage landed cost globally.
“The average landed cost of imported Super Petrol decreased by 16.11% , Diesel decreased by 5.43% while Kerosene decreased by 6.63%,” EPRA said in a statement.
With the new prices, a litre of Super Petrol will retail at Ksh212.36 in Nairobi, Ksh209.3 in Mombasa, Ksh211.35 in Nakuru ans Ksh212.12 in Eldoret.
A litre of Automotive Diesel will retail at a maximum of Ksh201.47 in Nairobi and Ksh201.65 in Eldoret.
The drop comes as a sigh of relieve to motorists and Kenyans ahead of the festive season.
Last month, EPRA retained prices for the previous month despite an overall drop in global oil prices, sparking an uproar from a section of political leaders.
The opposition had noted that they are expected nothing but a reduction in the prices this month.
Prices had risen to a historic high, pushing further the cost of living.
At some point, Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir had warned that a litre of Petrol would retail at as high as Ksh300 per litre due to the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.
