Former Kesses Member of Parliament Dr Swarrup Mishra has joined the ruling party – United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Mishra was formerly received at the party on Wednesday by Secretary General Cleophas Malala.
He joined the party after leading a delegation of members of the Asian Community who met Malala among other UDA top officials at the Hustler Centre in Nairobi.
In an update on his verified Facebook page, Mishra said he was glad to be back home.
“Glad to be back home! To God be the Glory….” he said in a Facebook post where he shared photos of the meeting.
Mishra who served for a single term as the MP for the Kesses constituency from 2017 to 2022 failed to win a second term in last year’s general election.
He had opted to seek re-election as an independent candidate, turning down calls from locals to join the then-dominant party in the region – UDA.
UDA wave
Eventually, he lost to the UDA candidate CPA Julius Ruto.
But as fate would have it, the hustler wave was too strong in the North Rift, and it ended up sweeping away the former MP alongside several other legislators that had also opted to seek re-election on an independent ticket.
Others that lost the seat included Silas Tiren (Moiben) and Alfred Keter (Nandi Hills).
After the 2022 general elections, Mishra expressed willingness to work with the government of the day and congratulated President William Ruto during his inauguration.
It was only a matter of time before the former MP joined UDA.
It however remains unclear whether his latest move has any relation with the 2027 general elections.
Many political analysts argue that Mishra lost the seat for merely being on the wrong political side and that he would have easily retained had he been in UDA.
