The Government has finally advertised a tender for the construction of Eldoret 64 Ultra-Modern market in Eldoret town.
According to an advertisement on the government’s website mygov.go.ke, dated December 5, 2023, the tender is open.
The multi-billion project tender was advertised alongside 18 other projects across the country.

“The Government of Kenya through The Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development, State Department for Housing and Urban Development intends to procure suitably qualified contractors for the following projects as listed below…” read part of the tender advertisement.
Accommodate 10,000 traders
The Eldoret 64 Ultra-Modern Market will be constructed in one of the markets that were closed over a year ago.

It is expected that at least Ksh6 billion will be invested in the project that seeks to address the lack of space for traders within Eldoret town to operate from.
Once complete, the market will accommodate at least 10,000 traders.
The dateline for interested bidders for the Eldoret Market tender has been set for December 19, 2023.
“Completed Tender documents enclosed in plain sealed envelopes and clearly marked with the Tender Number and Tender Description shall be delivered to the address below and/or be deposited in the Tender Box located on the 6th Floor, Ardhi House, 1st Ngong Avenue so as to be received on or before 19th December, 2023 at 9:00am. Bulky documents shall be delivered and Registered at the Office of the Head, Supply Chain Manage[1]ment Services Ardhi House 6th Floor, Wing B,” read part of the advertisement.
Ruto’s promise for the Eldoret market
Tender for the market has been advertised days after Governor Jonathan Bii held a meeting with State Department for Housing and Urban Development Principal Secretary Charles Hinga, in Nairobi.
The latest development brings closer the start of the project that President William Ruto promised during last year’s Christmas Thanksgiving service at the Eldoret Sports Club.

During the service, Governor Bii requested the President to help set up a bigger market that would end conflicts between county enforcement officers and the traders.
“If it pleases you, we don’t want to keep fighting over the market. Kindly help us build a multi-complex building…three or four floors so that we accommodate all traders,” the county boss had asked the Head of State who responded, “We will build a new one and it will be bigger so that you don’t keep fighting over who operates from where.”
