Plans to Construct Ksh6 Billion Eldoret Market Set to Enter Crucial Stage

Plans to construct a modern market in Eldoret town is set to gain further momentum next month.

The market will be constructed by the National Government in collaboration with the County Government of Uasin Gishu.

According to Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim, tender for the Ksh6 billion project is expected to be advertised next month (December )– formally setting in motion actualisation of the project.

Chelilim made the revelations on Monday after meeting Housing Principal Secretary Charles Hinga at his office in Nairobi.

Architectural design for the seven-storey market have since been submitted to relevant authorities and approved.

Fresh produce

The design showcases features which incorporate innovative technologies and sustainable practices with an aim of creating a market that not only promotes economic activities but also a vibrant hub for the residents of Uasin Gishu therefore standing out as a beacon of modernity and functionality.

In addition, the ultra-modern market will have installation of coolers to enable value addition of fresh produce, provision of modern market information technology systems among others components.

My administration will continue to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure the timely completion of the project and its successful operation in the future,” said governor Bii in a previous function at the site where the market will be established

The new ‘champions market’ will project the county as a hub of economic activity, fostering growth and prosperity especially now that Eldoret town is nearing attainment of becoming the fifth city.

With the modern design and state-of-the-art facilities, the market will also attract both local and international businesses boosting trade and creating employment opportunities for the residents of Uasin Gishu serving as a testament to the county’s efforts of supporting and nurturing the business community in the region.

County Executive Committee Member for Trade and Cooperatives Martha Cheruto was also present during the meeting.
