Governor Bii among Prominent Leaders Honored By Ruto during Jamhuri Day

Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim is among a host of leaders who were on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, honored with various awards during the 60th Madaraka Day celebrations.

The honors were awarded by President William Ruto.

Bii serving his first term as a county boss was decorated with the Order of the Golden Heart’s Second Class Elder of the Golden Heart (EGH) alongside Chief of the Defense Forces Gen. Francis Ogolla and Head of Public Service Felix Kosgey.

The award was also bestowed on several other governors including Wavinya Ndeti of Machakos, Dusan Kihika (Nakuru), Nairobi’s Johnstone Sakaja, Gladys Wanga (Homa Bay), and Cecily Mbarire (Embu).

A number of Cabinet Secretaries were also awarded the EGH title. They include Mithika Linturi (Agriculture), Soipan Tuya, Penina Malonza, Eliud Owalo, Davis Chirchir and Susan Wafula of Health.

National Parliament leader of majority Kimani Ichungwa, his Senate counterpart Aaron Cheruiyot and minority leaders in the two houses Opiyo Wandayi and Stewart Madzayo were also awarded with EGH

The president also awarded 8 individuals with the Third Class Moran of the Order of the Golden Heart (MGH).

The eight are Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome, Prof Ahluwalia Mohinder Sing, Nakuru Senator Tabitha Karanja, Khawaja Arshed, Joseph Ngaira, EACC Chief Executive Officer Twalib Mbarak, NIS Director General Noordin Haji and Nkoroi Juster Nkirote.

According to a gazette notice, the awards were issued in recognition of distinguished and outstanding services rendered to the nation by the said individuals in various capacities and responsibilities.
