For decades, residents of Kiambaa-Jasho/Wambugu, Ngeria Ward and the surrounding areas in Uasin Gishu County on the outskirts of Eldoret town had complained about poor road and drainage systems that are overwhelmed during the rainy season, making the roads impassable.
However, a road improvement program launched by Governor Jonathan Bii has brought a major change and a sigh of relief to the residents.
The area has fertile land and farmers grow Irish potatoes, wheat, maize, sunflower, rear chicken, goats and dairy cows among other key economic activities.
According to elders from the area led by Kiambaa village elders, James Wambugu, Magdaline Tuwei and Rodha Nderitu, the grading and gravelling exercise will greatly improve access and connectivity of the area. This move they add has opened the area for business people in Eldoret town and the North Rift region for economic growth.
“During heavy rains, the roads become impassable and greatly hampering transport activities in our area,” said Wambugu, adding: “We are very happy that we will be transporting our produce to the markets with ease.”
One of the roads being improved is Kiambaa-Jasho/Wambugu road which residents say will solve the problem that has existed for a long period.
