A member of Elgeyo Marakwet County Assembly has died.
Governor Wisely Rotich on Friday, January 9, 2026, announced the death of Endo MCA Jeremiah Kibiwott Kiptum.
What caused death of Endo MCA Jeremiah Kiptum?
In a statement, Rotich said Kiptum, popularly known as Toriebe died while undergoing treatment in a Nairobi hospital.
The MCA, the governor said, had been battling a long illness.
“With the permission of the family here at Nairobi Hospital, I wish to notify the EMC community and Endo ward community that Hon. Jeremiah Biwott has rested,” the governor said.
Rotich described the MCA as a dedicated leader who served his Endo people with commitment to his very last days.
He recalled how, despite his sickness, Toriebe got personally involved in rescue and recovery efforts during the November 2025 landslides in his Ward, where more than 40 lives were lost and scores injured.
The Governor also heaped praise on the late MCA, who also served as Chairperson of the County Assembly Agriculture and Irrigation Committee, for supporting his wealth creation strategy through the sector, as well as peace efforts in Kerio Valley.
“I wish to convey my sincere condolences to the family,friends,leaders,teachers,speaker,his fellow MCAs,People of Endo and entire EMC community. Mutyo sana.Let us all pray for the family during this difficult moment,” he added.
How Murkomen mourned Endo MCA
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen also shared his deepest condolences to the family, friends, and people of Endo Ward, Elgeyo-Marakwet County, following the passing of the MCA.
He described him as a dedicated leader who touched many lives through selfless service to the society, including as a teacher and lately as an MCA.
“We will fondly remember Hon Toryebe’s contribution to sustainable peace and development in the Kerio Valley region,” Murkomen said.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the family, colleagues and all who knew him during this difficult time,” he added.
