Uasin Gishu gubernatorial aspirant Jonathan Bii – Chelilim has advised his supporters to beware of a fake Facebook page using his name.
Bii alias Koti Moja says the fake Facebook page is being used by his competitors in a malicious attempt to pull down his gubernatorial bid.
He has however assured that he will continue engaging in a campaign devoice of malice.
“FAKE PAGE ALERT!!! To our supporters and the general public, you all are aware of our genuine approach in the manner in which we run our campaign, we’ve always been devoid of any malice. However, our competitors have for a long time depended on purely malicious attempts at pulling us down in pursuit for political relevance just as the page below has been engaging in and we urge our supporters to take note of the same as we maintain our genuinely founded campaigns. #KotiMoja,” noted Jonathan Bii – Chelilim, in a post on his official Facebook page.
The gubernatorial aspirant was reacting to a post from one of the fake Facebook accounts that claimed he had been endorsed for the seat by the outgoing governor Jackson Mandago.
In the fake post, Bii is also quoted pledging to support Mandago’s Senate bid.
With social media playing a key role in the upcoming general election, there have been rising cases of fake accounts being created, and are used to spread fake news, propaganda, and disinformation.
Jonathan Bii – Chelilim is among the leading contenders for the gubernatorial seat that has attracted over 10 aspirants.
He will be facing off among others Soy MP Caleb Kositany, former envoys Prof. Julius Bitok and Sarah Serem, as well as Ng’enyilel MCA David Sing’oei for the UDA ticket.
Billionaire businessman Bundotich Zedekiah Kiprop is also in the race, having already said he would vie as an independent candidate.
