Uasin Gishu County Drugs Control Officers Nab 6 People with 17 Pieces of Shisha In Eldoret

A team from the Uasin Gishu County Government’s Directorate of Alcoholic Drinks Control Board on Thursday, December 4, 2025, arrested at least six individuals found in possession of 17 pieces of shisha during a mid-day crackdown along the Teleview area on the Eldoret–Kisumu road.

Shisha—an impure stimulant drug often associated with dangerous substances, including methamphetamine—is commonly smoked through a water pipe and delivers nicotine along with other toxic chemicals.

The suspected street variant, sisa, contains an even more harmful mixture of substances.

Led by Director for Alcoholic Drinks Control Board Koiya Arap Maiyo, the operation targeted an illegal establishment operating barely 100 metres from a school, raising serious concern over the exposure of students to harmful substances.

Those arrested were mainly middle-aged men, with some suspected to be students. Authorities noted that the suspects are new entrants into Eldoret City and were running the business without the required liquor license.

Speaking after the operation, Director Maiyo commended the officers for their swift action, stressing the County’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding young people:

We will not allow dangerous substances to find their way into our estates, learning institutions, or entertainment joints. Our teams are on high alert this festive season, and anyone selling illegal drinks or drugs will face the full force of the law,” said Director Maiyo.

He urged residents to remain vigilant a report suspicious drug-related activities as the county intensifies its festive-season crackdown.

Use of shisha is banned in Kenya.

The arresting officers, Erick Kipkorir and Isaac Barmasai, said they are intensifying surveillance across all corners of the city to ensure no drugs or illegal businesses infiltrate Eldoret.
