National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula on Friday, June 26, 2026 urged residents of Trans Nzoia County to back President William Ruto’s re-election bid, saying the move would position Western Kenya for national leadership in 2032.
Speaking during a thanksgiving Mass for Kwanza MP Ferdinand Kevin Wanyonyi at Kitale Ndogo, Wetang’ula tied support for Ruto’s 2027 bid to the region’s long-term political ambitions.
“I also urged residents to support President William Ruto’s second term bid as we position the Western region for national leadership in 2032, a journey in which I will also offer myself for consideration,” he said in a Facebook post.

The Speaker, who also serves as Ford Kenya party leader, said consolidating behind Ruto now was strategic for Western Kenya to “ascend to the presidency” in the next decade. He framed the 2027 election as the foundation for 2032.
The event doubled as a show of solidarity for Wanyonyi, who Wetang’ula said had been a “steadfast defender of Ford Kenya, even during challenging moments.”
He confirmed he helped secure medical care for the MP both locally and abroad during his illness.

Wetang’ula also reaffirmed a pledge to Trans Nzoia residents to accelerate development by completing stalled projects and rolling out new initiatives, while calling for unity and rejection of divisive politics.
The Speaker’s remarks signal early positioning ahead of 2032 succession politics, even as Ruto seeks a second term in 2027.
