Kesses Member of Parliament UDA candidate in the upcoming general election CPA Julius Ruto is now accusing the security team of favoritism.
CPA Ruto laments that his competitor, Dr. Swarup Mishra, is enjoying state security and support in his campaigns.
In an interview with Uasin Gishu News, the former Uasin Gishu County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Finance and Economic Planning argues that Dr. Mishra, an independent candidate, has been moving around his campaign trail with a police escort, clear favoritism from the government.
“Lack of fairness in support from various actors who enable a good political environment is an issue that needs to be addressed,” notes CPA Ruto.
“In Kesses, for example, one candidate is being given massive security, to me, that is public resources and despite being told that we can also request for police, that is not workable,” he adds.
Senior Assistant Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Mokin Arap Tanui responding to the matter had noted that all politicians are free to request security during their campaigns.
“Security is available for all. Just request for it and we shall give you all the amount of security that you want,” Arap Tanui said during the peace accord signing event in Eldoret.
But according to CPA Ruto, it is almost impossible for every politician to be allocated the kind of security his competitor has been enjoying.
Dr. Mishra has been moving around the constituency with a number of armed police officers, and armored vehicles, a move the UDA candidate says paints him as enjoying state support.
CPA Ruto also accuses the incumbent MP of moving around with armed youths, some of who he claims are usually intoxicated before the legislator hits a campaign trail.
“It is good to point out why some candidates are being favored and supported by the state. We need a fair level playing field where all can traverse, sell agenda and let people decide. Influencing, causing fear, molesting and intimidations are not fair at all,” he adds.
The contest for the Kesses parliamentary seat has been billed as a two-horse race, between Dr. Mishra and CPA Ruto.
