The family of the legendary Kenyan athletic great Kipchoge Keino has announced plans to set up a multi-million Sports Complex in the soon-to-be Eldoret City.
Martin Keino, the Chief Executive Officer of the Keino Sports Holdings on Friday revealed that plans for the groundbreaking of the compex that will sit on a 75 acre piece of land are at advanced stage.
Keino, son to the legendary athlete noted that they anticipate works on the project to start early in 2024.
However, costing for the project are yet to be done.

However, it is expected that millions will go into the construction works.
“We as a family are planning to construct a sports complex which will be an extension of the Kipkeino High Altitude Training Centre,” Keino said.
“We feel we need bigger facilities for the sports people around this region,” he added.
The Kip Keino IOC high performance training centre, which the upcoming complex will be an extension of is an elite center for learning and sports excellence.
Located just outside Eldoret within several hundred acres of farmland owned by Kipchoge Keino, the centre is listed as a High Performance Training Centers by the IAAF.
It focuses on developing middle and long distance track champions.
Facilities at the upcoming sports complex in Eldoret
The state-of-the-art sports complex will comprise of all sporting facilities among them basketball courts, volleyball and hockey fields as well as football and athletics track alongside an indoor arena and accomodation facilities.
“We are targeting sports people from the highest levels. Rugby, basketball, volleyball among others to come and train at the facility as well as people who will want to play for fun,” Keino said.
Once complete, the Keino Sports Holdings boss believes the facility will be able to host major events for schools and others as well as international ones.
Construction works are expected to be done within between three to five years.
“We’re looking to break ground begining of 2024. For now, we are finalizing the cost given its going to be a 75-acre sporting complex with all the facilities,” Keino said.
“Our plan is to have a world class international sporting facility here in Eldoret,” he added.
He further said the compex will provide accommodation services to sports men and women and a subdized cost, especially those that will need to stay longer for their training.
