All premise owners in Kitale town have been directed to paint their properties olive green.
Governor George Natembeya on Wednesday said the initiative is through the decision made with guidance from the Kitale town board.
The chosen colour will serve as a distinctive identity for premises in Trans Nzoia.
Governor Natembeya made the sentiment at Railway Grounds in Kitale during a County Usafi Day.
It was attended by hundreds of county workers and members of the business community.
Governor Natembeya added that a formal notice would soon be issued to landlords, instructing them to refurbish and beautify their commercial buildings by painting them.
“You cannot be getting rent from tenants and yet the environment they operate from is disorganized,” said Governor Natembeya.
In addition, County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Lands, Physical Planning, Housing and Urban Development said each street in Kitale town would be maintained by a specific department to ensure ongoing cleanliness of the municipality.
The CECM further revealed that in collaboration with the World Bank support program (KISIP), the county government is set to enhance the infrastructural development in the informal settlement in the municipality.
As part of the initiative, the CECM Lands said roads will be paved and street lights installed in various areas including Matisi, Mitume, Maridadi, Kalabana, and Shimo la Tewa.
Present were the members of the Kitale Municipal Board including the Municipal manager Irine Nang’ole and the board vice chairperson Alice Mwai, County secretary Truphosa Amere, Patrick Gacheru (Trade), Sam Ojwang (Environment), Pepela Wanjala (Health), Boniface Wanyonyi (Finance), Julia Ruto(PSM).
Others were MCAs Alfred Weswa(Sirende), Kutitila Sichangi (Sikhendu) and Erick Wafula(Hospital), and chief officers Dr Wanjala (Governance), Dorothy Nyukuri (Environment), Philip Kapten(PSM), Joseph Wasike(Roads), Dr Judy Simiyu (Health) and Mwangi Wamondo (Infrastructure) as well as chief of staff Dickson Wamocho among others.
