The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has announced the opening of its application portal for Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges.
KUCCPS in a statement said all Form Four leavers who completed their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) in 2024 can apply for placement to the teo institutions.
KUCCPS adopts phased application
Unlike in the past, KUCCPS said it will this time adopt a phased application process, starting with KMTC and TVET colleges, to allow students enrolling for the March intake to apply in good time.
The application portal will be open for 21 days and will close on February 14, 2025.
The phased application is a new move aimed at streamlining admission, as explained by KUCCPS CEO Dr. Agnes Mercy Wahome.
“Universities and Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs) normally have their intakes later in the year while KMTC and TVETs admit theirs in January, March and May, hence the need to have a phased application process to enable students to transit to colleges promptly,” Dr. Wahome said.
Who can apply for KMTC and TVET KUCCPS placement?
This year, Form Four leavers who sat the KCSE examination from the year 2000 to 2024 will be eligible to apply in the first phase of the exercise. Applications for degree programmes and TTCs will follow, and dates will be announced later.
KMTC has availed opportunities in 90 campuses this year while, like last year, TVET institutions, including national polytechnics and other TVET institutions under the Ministry of Education, have increasing training opportunities, Dr. Wahome said.
Additionally, this year KMTC opened three new campuses in Kerio Valley, Marimanti and Marsabit.

The number of popular courses offered in various campuses has also increased, including Diploma in Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing (49 campuses) and Certificate in Health Records and Information Technology (36 campuses), among others.
“Over 260 TVET institutions, which include the National Polytechnics and other TVET training institutions countrywide, are available for application and we encourage applicants to select TVET institutions and KMTC campuses within their localities as this will make it cheaper for them to operate from their homes,” she said.
Whuch are the new KMTC courses
KMTC has also introduced new courses to meet the needs of the healthcare sector.
Among them are Diploma in Health Insurance Management and Diploma in Mortuary Science, Dr. Wahome said, adding that opportunities have increased, especially in Community Health programmes.
Candidates who will sit their KCSE examination this year will have an opportunity to apply for KMTC and TVET programmes using their improved grades for the September intake.
More information on the detailed application guidelines, institutions, available programmes and their requirements have been provided on the KUCCPS portal and website, KUCCPS said.
In addition, KUCCPS officers will offer support to applicants in designated colleges across all 47 counties, including Huduma Centres.
