List of Eldoret City Board Members Nominees

The Uasin Gishu County Public Service Board recently nominated 10 individuals who, if approved, will sit on the Eldoret City Board.

Names of the 10 nominees were settled on following interviews conducted by the board.

The names have since been forwarded to the Uasin Gishu County Assembly for consideration.

Approval hearings for the nominees were conducted last week by the assembly’s committee on appointment, which will table its report on the suitability of the said individuals.

Role of city board members

City board members are appointed to manage urban areas under the oversight of county governments, operating under the Urban Areas and Cities Act. These boards are responsible for key urban functions such as infrastructure development, waste management, revenue collection, and service delivery.

The composition of city boards typically includes members appointed by the county governor and others nominated by local organisations, including professional bodies, the private sector, informal sector associations, and neighbourhood groups.

The County Assembly must approve all governor-appointed members, ensuring a level of accountability as well as representation.

The court had initially suspended the appointments following a case filed raising concerns about non-compliance with the Urban Areas and Cities Act, which mandates that the chairperson be elected by the board members at their first meeting and forwarded to the County Assembly for vetting.
