A family in Eldoret town is in a celebratory mood even before Christmas after their daughter was honoured in the recently concluded second edition of the African Kids Awards 2022.

Liz Kipruto has made the family proud after her passion for humanitarian work was recognized in the awards – which culminated in her being crowned the overall winner.

The 7-year-old also emerged as the second best in the humanitarian category during the awards gala at the Kenya National Theatre in Nairobi on December 17, 2022.

AFRICA KIDS AWARDS is an annual accolade presented by Little Miss Kenya. An entry into the awards categories is aimed at recognizing children’s talents, skills, and achievements as well as encouraging them in self-realization and awareness.

Ruth Nafula, mother to Liz says her daughter developed an interest in humanitarian work courtesy of the annual program at her former school – Acacia where she was for PP1 and PP2 studies.

Acacia school has an annual Culture Day that allows pupils to give and help the needy. They always go to SOS Village where they give food, and clothes,” Nafula told Uasin Gishu News.

This culture has helped shape the interest of the 7-year-old, who is expecting to join Grade Two at Potters House Academy in January 2023.

She is passionate about helping others, especially the needy – like sharing food, clothes etc,” notes Liz’s mother.

It is from her involvement in visiting the SOS Children’s Village that she won big at the African Kids Awards 2022.

Nafula further reveals that her humanitarian work was inspired by singer Akothe’s gesture at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. At the time, the popular musician helped provide water and food to several needy families in Turkana County.

The mother also tells Uasin Gishu News that she has always supported her daughter in her humanitarian involvement at a young age.

As a mother, I really try my best to make her better than me. I want a better generation from her. That is why I am trying my best to align her with her passion and interests,” notes Nafula.

Meanwhile, as part of honouring her win at the African Kids Awards 2022, Liz is hoping Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim will support her passion by helping the needy, especially those in orphanages whom she says need food, sanitary towels, and clothing, among others.

The AFRICA KIDS AWARDS trophy handed to Liz Kipruto for being the overall winner.
