Former Uasin Gishu County Assembly Leader of the majority Josephat Lowoi has landed a new in the Kenya Kwanza government.
Lowoi who served as the Karuna/Meibeki MCA for two terms was on Thursday appointed Director, Minority and Marginalized Communities Affairs at the Executive Office of the President.
The appointment was made by President William Ruto.
In the 2022 general election, Lowoi lost re-election bid at the UDA party primaries.
He had initially won the party ticket but a repeat was ordered after which the current MCA won.
But despite controversy missing out on the UDA party ticket for the Karuna/Meibeki seat, Lowoi supporters the winner.
He had served for two consecutive terms as the Uasin Gishu County Assembly leader of the majority.
Lowoi who has roots in Turkana County was first elected Karuna/Meibeki MCA in 2013 on a defunct United Republican Party ticket.
He later won reelection in 2017 on a Jubilee party ticket.
Karuna/Meibeki is a ward in Moiben Sub-County, Uasin Gishu.
He becomes the second former MCA in Uasin Gishu to land a top government job.
In June, former Assembly’s deputy majority whip Gilbert Tenai was also appointed a member of the National Drought Management Authority (NDMA).
He will serve in the role for three years.
Tenai lost the Cheptiret/Kipchamo MCA seat to an independent candidate.
