Uasin Gishu County men’s amputee football team coach Brian Owuor has said the squad is ripe to chaff off the opposition at next week’s National Amputee Football trials.
At least 14 counties are expected at the national trials set for July 27-30 at the Eldoret National Polytechnic Grounds.
The amputee team members say they feel inspired by their Para volleyball men’s team that emerged winners at the trials, in a championship held in Eldoret.
“The para volley team did very well and our team feels challenged and inspired by their win,” said Owuor.
“We have had adequate training and are going for victory at the trials,” he added.
“We have been training well and we are ready for the trials. The winning attitude has kept us going,” Owuor further said.
In addition, the trainer said, “The boys are responding well in training and we expect a quality play, nothing short of victory.”
Arron Kipkoech is the team captain: “The midfield, defence and the attacking tools are working well and we expect victory.”
Amputee footballers from Uasin Gishu, Bungoma, Kakamega, Trans Nzoia, Kisumu, Nakuru, Siaya, Bomet, Nairobi, Narok, Mombasa, Kiambu and Machakos are expected to participate in the national tournament.
The trials will be a selection for the Kenyan squad to the World Cup in Ghana, later this year.
