A former Member of the Uasin Gishu County Assembly Gilbert Tenai has landed a new state job.
Tenai who served as the Cheptiret/Kipchamo MCA between 2017 and 2022 was on Friday appointed a member of the National Drought Management Authority.
In a gazette notice seen by Uasin Gishu News, the former MCA who also served as the Uasin Gishu County Assmebly deputy minority whip will serve in the position for a period of three years.
The appointment was made by Cabinet Secretary for East African Community (EAC), the ASALS and Regional Development Rebbecca Miano.

“In exercise of the powers confeered by paragraph 8 (1) (d) of the National Drought Management Authorty Act, the Cabinet Secretary for East African Community (EAC), the ASALS and Regional Development appoints Gilbert Tenai Bor to be a member of the National Drought Management Authority for a period of three (3) years, with effect from9th June 2023,” read part of the notice dated June 5, 2023.
The National Drought Management Authority (NDMA) is a public body established by the National Drought Management Authority (NDMA) Act, 2016.
Mandate of NDMA
It previously operated under the State Corporations Act (Cap 446) of the Laws of Kenya by Legal Notice Number 171 of November 24, 2011.
The Act gives the authority the mandate to exercise overall coordination over all matters relating to drought risk management and to establish mechanisms, either on its own or with stakeholders, that will end drought emergencies in Kenya.
The appointment comes as a lifeline for Tenai who lost in the 2022 general elections.

He had vied for the seat on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket but was floored by Gilbert Kipsang whom he controversially beat during party nominations.
But Kipsang opted to go independent after UDA overturned his nomination win in favour of Tenai.
