Uasin Gishu County leadership has committed to undertake major upgrade to Eldoret city’s Informal Settlements.
With the expected upsurge in population and the growing demand for infrastructure developments, the County through the Kenya Informal Settlements Improvement Programme(KISIP) is undertaking various projects to see an upgraded lifestyle for residents living in high population Settlements in Eldoret City.
County Secretary Edwin Bett and County Executive Committee Members (CECMs) Anthony Sitienei (Lands), Dr. Janet Kosgey (Education) and Agriculture’s Edward Sawe, on Monday joined the National KISIP team led by Zenah Kirui in a public participation that focused on the people’s needs at Maili Nne Settlements.

Speaking at the event, County Secretary Bett, assured that Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim’s administration was taking to task every expert and resources to fully engage in the project’s success.
Maili Nne residents led by the area MCA turned up in hundreds to elect the Settlement leaders who would be in charge of monitoring the projects smoothly for ownership and management of conflicts.
Improved living standards
CECM Lands Anthony Sitienei, noted that the infrastructure expected in the area would improve the living standards as well as create job opportunities to the youth in the area as all manual jobs in the projects would be done by the local residents.
Further the KISIP team leader applauded Uasin Gishu County for its quick interventions that have seen the rise of a new city, which was a contributor to the increased funds to a tune of Ksh1.4 billion.

The funds increment was also approved due to the fact that Uasin Gishu was among the top counties that performed exceptionally well in KISIP Phase 1.
“This is one of the County’s where phase 1 of KISIP was totally successful. We have been asking other counties to benchmark here because its been a big success story,” said Ms Kirui.
Simat/Kapseret MCA Moses Kebenei who is also the Chair Committee for Housing and Urban Development said that the County assembly members are looking forward to the projects as “these are projects that impact on the wananchi directly.”
Also in attendance were Chief Officer Housing and Urban Development Julius Koech, Chief Officer Lands and Physical planning Nathan Korir, Chief of Staff Nicholas Chepkwony, Directors Nelly Jerotich, Beatrice Menjo, Daniel Koech and Benjamin Kirongo.
