Mandago Delivers Last State of the County Address

Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago Wednesday, June 29, 2022, sent a message of gratitude to the county legislature, executive and the people of Uasin Gishu for the support they afforded him to serve for two terms.

Speaking while delivering his last State of The County Address, Mandago looked back to the milestones his two administrations (2013/17 and 2018/22) have achieved particularly in road maintenance, youth empowerment, health services, co-operatives movements and agriculture.

For instance, he noted that the administration has done well in agriculture particularly in improving extension services, provision of affordable semen to improve livestock breeds and promotional crop programs which have seen cash crop farming and diversification increase to over 3,000 acres of cash and fruit crops.

I leave office as a proud governor for the achievement we have reached as a county – both assembly and the executive,” Mandago said.

He named better connectivity in roads across the county and here in Eldoret town as other key areas he is proud of.

Under the governor’s administration, several kilometres of walkways were constructed along all key roads in and out of Eldoret town, an initiative he says has enabled many people to walk safely around town and residential estates.

Improved business is another key area Mandago is proud of under his 10-year-reign.

As we took over the county in 2013, half of Eldoret town was dark, now, most parts are well lit, which means improved security and more business hours for traders,” he said.

In the Health Sector, the county boss said all health facilities are now accredited by the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF), alongside an increased number of the facilities and medical staff.

Mandago also notes he has been able to enhance water provision to locals within Eldoret town from 48 per cent that he found in 2013, to the current over 75 per cent.

Youth empowerment is another area Mandago says he leaves office proud of, having initiated a program that sees 20 youths from each of the 30 wards supported to join Rift Valley Technical Training Institute (RVTTI).

The county has also set up at least 12 Vocational Training Colleges (VTCs) aside from facilitating students to travel abroad for further studies.

We are the leading county in TVET enrolment, which means an enhanced skills level, among our youths,” he said.

Mandago is received by Uasin Gishu County Assembly Speaker David Kiplagat for his last State of County Address.

But as his reign as the first governor of Uasin Gishu comes to an end, he is hoping to succeed in his bid to be the third Senator.

Mandago is the Senate candidate using the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket.
