MCK Urges Journalists to Lead Societal Change

The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has called on journalists to actively promote social justice, which will ultimately enhance peace and alleviate poverty in society.

MCK Meru Regional Coordinator Jackson Karanja cited the media’s role in driving positive change.

He said journalists must report compelling stories that seek to inform and inspire communities.

Journalists are not just storytellers; they are catalysts for change. Covering stories that highlight peacebuilding and poverty alleviation efforts, bring attention to critical issues, inspire community action and attract investments in programs that uplift society,” he said at a media outreach in Radio Shahidi, Isiolo County.

Karanja further urged the journalists to amplify the voices of marginalised communities by highlighting efforts to address societal challenges.

When journalists cover these stories with precision and thoroughness, they capture the attention of key stakeholders who can direct resources toward solutions. This is the true essence of journalism in raising awareness and driving meaningful change,” he added.

Radio Shahidi Director Father Charles Njue echoed this sentiment by reaffirming the station’s dedication to promoting social justice through impactful reporting.

At Radio Shahidi, we believe in journalism that transforms lives. We are committed to dedicating airtime to highlighting peacebuilding initiatives and efforts aimed at poverty alleviation. This aligns with our mission as a station devoted to promoting the common good,” he stated.
