Popular Saboti Location senior Chief, Protus Wechuli has officially exited public service after attaining the mandatory retirement age of 60 years.
Famously known as “Misheveve”, Wechuli served the government for over 17 years. He started his duties as the Chief of Saboti Location on 27 November 2007.
On Saturday, 5 April 2025, hundreds of residents including religious and political leaders attended the hilarious administrator’s farewell party held at Kapretwa primary school grounds.
Renowned for his unique combination of wit and unwavering commitment to his work, Wechuli exit public service with a clean record and big shoes to fit.
Misheveve’s 17 years in service is credited to integrity, professionalism and call to serve.
Every speaker who got a chance to speak at the colourful ceremony coupled with several gift, praised him for his exemplary work.
Leading the political class, Saboti Constituency Member of parliament, Caleb Amisi and Trans Nzoia Woman Representative Lilian Siyoi said Wechuli a former teacher is still young and productive and should be appointed to serve the country in a different capacity.

Amisi said Wechuli’s contribution in uniting the people of Saboti will be remembered.
“Chief Misheveve led Saboti Location without discrimination. He united all the ethnic communities in this location and he deserves to be given a role in this government. He can even be part of IEBC,” Amisi said.

Amisi presented a brand new motorcycle to the retired chief.
Siyoi said Wechuli fought for the education of girls and women rights.
“Misheveve is my hero. You knew and believed in the principle that educating girl child is educating the whole community. We equally celebrate you for championing for women rights in our country,” she stated.
On his part, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Gilbert Masengeli said Wechuli’s 17 years in administration was marked with commitment to service delivery.
“Chief Wechuli is not just retiring, he is graduating from service. His approach to service provision will be remembered,” said Masengeli.
The DIG handed over a gift of Friesian heifer to the Chief.
Despite being known for his natural jokes, his colleagues led by Kinyoro Division Assistant County Commission Anusu Agala said the administrator’s performance was top-notch.
“He was a man deeply committed to his people. He was often the first to submit his reports, and he never failed in executing his assignments. Professionalism was his guiding principle,” said Agala.
When he took to the stage to address his guests, Chief Wechuli dressed in black suit, maroon neck-tie and a white shirt enumerated some of his achievements.

Wechuli used the opportunity to ask for forgiveness from the people he might have wronged in executing his duties.
“The authority is now gone, I am now coming back to you as an ordinary person. Please, if I stepped on your feet in my 17 years of service, find it in your heart to forgive me,” Wechuli urged his people.
He left many in laughters when he said 67 pregnant women are part of the many things he handed over to his successor.
The event culminated with traditional songs, dances, and a symbolic tree planting.
Many people consider Wechuli as modern day philosopher.
