Mohamed Maxwell Loyok: Moi University Medical Student Back to School after Getting Support

The Moi University College of Health Sciences community was filled with joy as it officially welcomed back Mohamed Maxwell Loyok, a first-year Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) student, to campus.

The warm reception was led by Prof. Robert Tenge, Principal of Moi University College of Health Sciences, alongside Dr Julia Songok, Dean of the School of Medicine, Rev. Saul Tanui, Chaplain and Ag. Assistant Dean of Students, and Lukorito, Student Counsellor.

Why did Mohammed Maxwell Loyot drop out of Moi University?

Maxwell’s story is one of determination, faith, and the power of community.

Despite scoring an outstanding A (83 points) in the 2023 KCSE examinations at Nyandarua High School, his dream of pursuing medicine nearly came to an end due to financial hardship.

Coming from a humble background in Bahati, Nakuru County, Maxwell’s family has faced many challenges, from unstable housing to daily struggles to make ends meet. Yet, he never lost sight of his dream to become a doctor.

After social media highlighted his plight, compassionate Kenyans and organisations stepped in to help.

The Affecto Foundation played a key role by coordinating an online fundraising campaign that attracted well-wishers from across the country.

Additionally, Maxwell’s fee placement was reviewed, allowing him to be placed in the correct funding band, a crucial step in ensuring he could resume his studies.

In a touching gesture of care, Nyandarua High School, Maxwell’s alma mater, followed up on his case and sent two teachers, Muraya and Ngetich, to personally accompany him back to Moi University.

Their commitment exemplifies the deep bond between teachers and their students, one that goes far beyond the classroom.

How will Moi University help Maxwell?

The School of Medicine has pledged continued support to ensure Maxwell completes his studies and fulfils his dream of serving humanity through medicine.

We celebrate this moment as a testament to the spirit of compassion, resilience, and the transformative power of education,” Moi University management said on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.

“Asanteni sana to all who believed in Maxwell and gave him a second chance, especially the Affecto Foundation, Nyandarua High School, and all well-wishers who stood with him,” it added.
