Moi University has announced the resumption of its 2024/2025 academic calendar, following a decision by the university’s Senate during a special meeting held on Thursday, November 7, 2024.
The institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Isaac S. Kosgey, announced the latest development in an internal memo addressed to all students.
When is Moi University re-opening?
According to the memo, students are expected to report back to campus immediately, with classes set to commence on Monday, November 11, 2024, at 8:00 a.m. This development comes as a relief for students who had faced uncertainty after the academic calendar was disrupted for unspecified reasons.

“This is, therefore, to announce the opening of the University with immediate effect,” read part of the memo signed by Prof. Kosgey. “Students are to report back for their studies, and classes are to resume on Monday, 11th November, 2024 at 8:00 a.m.”
The Vice-Chancellor also expressed gratitude to the students for their patience and support during the challenging period when the academic schedule was on hold. “This is to also thank the students for their understanding and support during the period where the University’s Academic programmes were disrupted,” he added.
The internal memo, bearing the Vice-Chancellor’s official stamp, also listed various university officials in the memo’s circulation list, indicating that the resumption decision involved consultation with several key departments, including student affairs, academic registrars, and the finance office.

The move is seen as a positive step towards restoring normalcy at Moi University, providing both staff and students an opportunity to proceed with academic activities uninterrupted.
For the last two months, no learning has been ongoing at the university, ranked among the oldest.
Earlier this week, Higher Education Principal Secretary Beatrice Inyangala had hinted that the institution would re-open on November 7, 2024.
