The management of Moi University has asked students to remain calm despite the ongoing lecturers’ strike.
Learning at the institution’s main campus in Kesses, Uasin Gishu County, as well as its other campuses in Annex, Eldoret, Nairobi, and Mombasa, has been affected by the strike for over a month.
In a notice to the students, Moi University Vice Chancellor Prof. Isaac Sanga Kosgey said the lecturers’ issues were being addressed.
Prof Kosgey, however, admitted that the current situation has disrupted the university’s academic calendar.
“The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Sanga Kosgey, requests all Moi University students to remain calm following the ongoing industrial action by University Academic staff and Non-teaching Staff, which has affected teaching and learning activities, leading to disruption of the Academic calendar,” read part of the notice dated September 24, 2024.
“All students should remain calm as the matters leading to the industrial action are being resolved to ensure the resumption of normal operations,” it added.
Moi University lecturers have been on strike demanding payment of their salary arrears and deposit of their statutory deductions to relevant state agencies.
They have insisted that they are ready to keep off their workstations until their issues are fully addressed.
