Students at Moi University have been given four options to consider following an acute shortage of condoms at the institution.
In a notice seen by Uasin Gishu News, the institution’s management noted that nearby health facilities have no adequate supply of condoms.
Ordinarily, the university provides free supply of the condoms, and complemented with the health facilities around its campus.
“This is to inform you that there are no supply of condoms to health facilities around,” read part of the notice dated September 19, 2024.
What options do Moi University have after condoms shortage?
With the situation, students are now asked to either abstain, be faithful to one partner or dig into their pockets to purchase the protectives
“If abstaining or being faithful to one partner is humanly impossible, buy protective from commercial outlets,” the university told students.
“Always keep yourself busy with other worthwhile activities. Prevention is better than cure,” it added.
Moi University lecturers strike
The condoms shortage comes at a time no learning is ongoing at the Moi University.
Lecturers at the institution have been on strike for the last over three weeks, demanding for payment of their salary arrears.
The strike has affected learning at all Moi University campuses. The institution has campuses in Annex on the outskirts of Eldoret City, Nairobi and Mombasa apart of the main campus in Kesses.
They last week joined a nationwide strike of university staff in pushing for the 2021-2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
