Trans Nzoia County Signs Major Health Deal with Moi University

The County Government of Trans Nzoia has signed a fresh partnership with Moi University to boost medical services and training in the devolved unit.

The agreement, signed through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the County headquarters on Friday, February 13, 2026, will see the two institutions work together at the Wamalwa Kijana Teaching and Referral Hospital.

Under this deal, Moi University College of Health Sciences will provide specialised medical training and healthcare services at the facility.

County officials stated that the move is aimed at improving the quality of treatment for residents and providing better learning grounds for medical students.

This strategic alliance will enhance learning opportunities and elevate healthcare standards,” Governor George Natembeya said.

It will positively impact public health outcomes in Trans Nzoia County,” the governor added.

The partnership is expected to reduce the need for patients to travel outside the county for specialised care.

By bringing in experts from the university, the referral hospital will now be able to handle more complex medical cases locally.

Natembeya further praised the Moi University leadership, led by Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kiplagat Kotut, for supporting the initiative.
